Boiler with climate control. Peculiarities

A modern climate-controlled boiler is a popular solution offered by a number of well-known brands. In general, in such cases, this function is implemented to save expensive energy resources, in particular, to save gas and electricity, the tariffs for which are constantly rising.

However, it is more interesting to discuss the topic of climate control based on a boiler running on cheap solid fuel, in this case, high-ash pellets. We are talking about a series of FOCUS pellet boilers, in which Polish climate control is connected. In the next article we will show how to do climate control based on standard circuits heating, that is, with unregulated heating.

What devices are used to automate heating?

Let's list devices for heating automation; they are called automation for pellet burners and boilers. Having such automation, you already get a boiler with climate control in the minimum version (climate control equipment).

Boiler microcontroller Such a controller directly controls the operation of heating equipment (for example, the air supply to a solid fuel boiler or to a pellet burner); additional modules that implement climate control functions and pump control can be connected to it.
Coolant temperature sensor Firstly, such a sensor can monitor the temperature of radiators throughout the entire circuit. Secondly, it is very convenient if, for example, you have other heating sources that may turn off. This can be a fireplace with a water circuit; the boiler can be connected when the temperature in the heating circuit decreases.
Weather sensor Controls the operation of the boiler depending on the outside temperature.
Flue gas temperature sensor Necessary for heat removal and for monitoring the level of safety, as well as reducing heat loss.
Room thermostats Measure the temperature in the room and regulate the temperature in the heating circuit.
Room touch controllers They support the function of adjusting the room temperature according to a specific algorithm.
Expansion modules They expand the functions of the boiler controller and allow you to connect climate control.
Internet control module Software for mobile devices for remote access.
Lambda probe controller Controls the supply of oxygen to the boiler
Automation for pellet bunker Controls the filling level of the pellet bunker and the automatic supply of pellets from the warehouse by an auger, if available.

This list of equipment allows you to fully automate your heating:

  • implement turning the boiler on or off when the outside temperature drops;
  • control the temperature of the coolant;
  • regulate the temperature in the rooms using a thermostat.

In this case, the adjustment will be relative, since more precise temperature settings are implemented by an already expanded version of climate control.

Climate control devices

Climate control automation collects information about temperature indicators and issues instructions to the boiler input regarding heating power. This is realized using wired and wireless sensors.

Heated floor control actuator Allows you to regulate the temperature in each heated floor circuit.
Room temperature sensor in wired or wireless connection option Measures the temperature in the room and transmits it to the climate controller.
Room touch thermostat Allows you to set and measure the temperature in the room.
Internet module to support wireless sensor connections Allows you to transfer temperature data to the controller or to the Internet module for “cloud” system management.
Indoor touch panel Used to create scenarios and manage temperature readings.
Climate controller Controller for connecting sensors and thermostats in the room. Converts and transmits information to the boiler controller.

Using the equipment as an example, you can clearly see how a boiler with climate control differs from a developed indoor climate control system. Each system has its own characteristics and advantages. Climate control allows you to set a comfortable temperature at any time in any room and turn off the heating of the rooms. A climate controlled boiler controls relative settings rather than precise temperature readings in each room.
