Energy-independent boiler (definition)

Energy independent boiler - this is heating boiler, which does not require connection to the electrical network for its operation. It uses only mechanical and physical processes for ignition, circulation of the coolant and maintenance of operation, which makes it independent of external sources of electricity.

An energy-independent boiler can be implemented as heating equipment with its own point of electrical generation, using solar panels.

Energy-independent boiler: features of energy-independent boilers:

  1. Lack of electric drives:
    • No electric motors, pumps or fans are required for operation. All processes in the boiler occur based on the natural circulation of the coolant and natural draft for supplying air to the combustion chamber.
  2. Gravitational circulation:
    • The circulation of the coolant in the heating system is carried out naturally (gravitationally), due to the difference in the density of hot and cold water. This eliminates the need for circulation pumps, which usually require electricity.
  3. Natural traction:
    • The chimney of such boilers operates on the basis of natural draft, which means there are no fans to remove combustion products. The efficiency of the draft depends on the height and design of the chimney, as well as on the outside air temperature.
  4. Mechanical thermostats and regulators:
    • The combustion process and temperature in energy-independent boilers are controlled using mechanical thermostats and regulators that open or close the supply of fuel or air depending on the temperature of the coolant.
  5. Manual ignition:
    • Ignition of the flame in non-volatile boilers is usually carried out manually, using matches or lighters, since there are no electric automatic ignition systems.
  6. Fuel:
    • Such boilers can use different types of fuel: gas, solid fuel (wood, coal) or liquid fuel. It is important to note that solid fuel independent boilers are characterized by a long process of ignition and manual temperature maintenance.

Advantages of energy-independent boilers:

  • Independence from electricity: The heating system continues to function even in the absence of electricity supply, which is especially important in regions with frequent power outages.
  • Simplicity of design: Such boilers have a simpler design, which makes them more reliable, with less chance of breakdowns.
  • Saving on electricity: Since the boiler does not use electricity, this reduces operating costs.

Disadvantages:

  • Limited control capabilities: Due to the lack of electronics, the boiler does not support complex control systems such as weather controllers or programmable thermostats. The energy-independent boiler is an old-style heating boiler.
  • Dependence on natural draft and circulation: For stable operation of the boiler, optimal conditions for natural circulation and draft are necessary. In case of installation errors or changes in climatic conditions, the efficiency of the boiler may decrease.

Energy-independent boilers are suitable for heating houses in remote or sparsely populated areas where there may be power outages. They provide stable heating without additional energy costs.
