Electrode boiler (definition)

Electrode boiler - this is a type electric boiler, in which electric energy transmitted through special electrodes is used to heat the coolant. Unlike traditional boilers, where heating occurs due to heating elements, in an electrode boiler, water or another coolant is heated directly by passing electric current through it.

Electrode boiler: main features

  1. Principle of operation: In an electrode boiler, heating is achieved by ionizing the coolant and by the flow of electric current through it between the electrodes. The coolant acts as a conductor, which leads to its heating.
  2. No heating elements: Electrode boilers do not have traditional heating elements (tubular electric heaters). This reduces the risk of heating element failure and increases the reliability of the equipment.
  3. Compactness: Such boilers are usually small in size and can be easily integrated into the heating system. This makes them convenient for use in conditions of limited space.
  4. Safety: Electrode boilers automatically stop working if there is no coolant or if it is insufficiently ionized, which minimizes the risk of overheating or accidents.
  5. Economical: Electrode boilers are highly efficient, since all supplied electrical energy is used directly to heat the coolant. However, efficiency is highly dependent on the composition and characteristics of the coolant itself.
  6. Requirements for the coolant: Electrode boilers can only use a certain type of heat carrier with the necessary electrical conductivity properties. Water for these purposes must be specially prepared, with an optimal concentration of salts.

Electrode boilers are often used in heating systems for small rooms, private houses and cottages. They can work as the main source of heat or as additional or backup heating, for example, with stove-fireplace heating. They can be used to easily regulate the temperature in the room, and their reliability and the absence of complex mechanical parts make such boilers a durable and practical solution.
