Gas boiler is a device for space heating and water heating, using natural or liquefied gas as fuel. The main function of a gas boiler is to convert gas combustion energy into thermal energy, which is then transferred to the coolant (usually water). Gas boilers are widely used in residential and commercial buildings due to their efficiency and ease of use.
Solid fuel alternatives are pyrolysis boilers (long burning boilers). For autonomous automatic heating, we recommend diesel boilers, providing high efficiency and automatic regulation of heating of the coolant.
Gas boiler: design features and configuration
The main components of a gas boiler include:
- Burner - a device in which gas is mixed with air and burned to produce heat.
- Heat exchanger - an element that transfers heat from burnt gas to the coolant.
- Chimney or combustion product removal system — designed to remove exhaust gases from the boiler.
- Circulation pump — ensures circulation of coolant through the heating system.
- Climate control sensors - can control the temperature in the heating circuit and in the room.
- Control and security system (built-in security group) - includes thermostats, sensors and automation that regulate operation boiler and ensuring its safe operation.
Gas boilers are divided into several types:
- Traditional (atmospheric) - use natural draft to remove combustion products through the chimney.
- Condensation — use the latent heat of condensation of water vapor in combustion products, which significantly increases their efficiency (up to 98%).
- Turbocharged — equipped with a fan for forced removal of combustion products through a coaxial chimney.
Advantages of gas boilers include:
- High efficiency — modern gas combustion technology ensures high efficiency.
- Economical — relatively low cost of natural gas compared to other types of fuel.
- Automation — gas boilers are equipped with automatic control systems, which simplifies their operation.
- Environmental friendliness — burning natural gas is accompanied by lower emissions of harmful substances compared to other fossil fuels.
Gas boilers require a gas connection or gas cylinders, as well as regular maintenance to maintain their efficiency and safety. Gas boilers are expensive to operate due to rising gas prices. An alternative to automatic heating is to use pellet boiler, reducing dependence on trunk networks.
