On sale you can find boilers with a temperature sensor. This mainly applies to electric and gas models. If temperature sensors are "on board" in budget electric boilers, then in gas models such capabilities are available in the expensive segment. What give such opportunities and is it worth spending money on them?

Fully functional boilers with temperature sensor: with automatic regulation

Most often, boilers with a temperature sensor are designed for room installation and for heating rooms with a small area. In this case, the boiler operation is optimized according to the ambient temperature. Usually, digital electric boilers have such an opportunity, respectively, it is implemented by microprogram control. This is an inexpensive option that it makes sense to spend money on if the heating equipment is installed in a residential area: not in a boiler room or in a colder or warmer room.

Despite the rather interesting features, these options are optional for the following reasons:

  • boilers with a temperature sensor work effectively with only one heating circuit. It can be both a low-temperature floor heating circuit and a high-temperature radiator circuit;
  • models with built-in simple climate control cannot process data from thermostats in rooms, if this is not additionally provided;
  • it is advisable to place such a boiler in a room with an average temperature.

In other words, the temperature sensor on board the boiler offers almost no advantages for the regulation of large systems. Such models are effective for local heating of small houses and premises.

Connection of the heating system with a boiler with temperature sensors (external)

Probably, many of our readers have seen boiler rooms with a multi-manifold device. When different heating circuits are connected to the same heat source using special piping. You can see a pump on almost every circuit. Alternatively, the pump is installed on the "return" of the main heating circuit to the boiler.

Pumps in this case perform not only the tasks of forced circulation. By controlling their speed, you can change the temperature of the coolant, respectively, the microclimatic parameters in the heated room. In almost all cases, an external temperature sensor is installed that works with a circulation pump in the circuit. When adjusting, either constant or variable parameters are set.

Additionally, residents can control the temperature of each individual radiator using a mechanical or digital thermostatic valve (if available). It changes the head in a particular radiator system as needed. Thermostatic floor heating sensors work according to the same principle. This can only be done with appropriate piping.

In general, climate control during piping of the heating system is implemented as follows:

  • the main heating circuit is connected to the outdoor temperature sensor, regulating the heating temperature in case of cold snap or warming. With its help, the constant temperature of the coolant is adjusted in the heating circuits from the heat source;
  • additionally, using thermostats and valves, the level of heat transfer on each specific heater or local heating circuit is regulated.

Digital external climate control systems are connected to a special microprogram control unit - a room programmer that controls the pump speed. Some models make it possible to process more complex behavioral scenarios of the system, controlled automatically in accordance with the sensor data. Such a system is called "Smart Home" with an automatic heating function. Boilers with a temperature sensor are significantly inferior to her in terms of the available functions.
